Who We Are

Sunburst Unlimited, Inc., dba Gardens from Garbage, grew out of a recognized need for sustainability - for the vitality of our environment and our communities. Our current food system relies heavily on transporting food grown in distant environments, which results in fuel consumption and reliance on an unsustainable system. Instead, we teach others how to grow food by nourishing what we have in our community and connecting with others who are doing the same.

Our Mission is about food sustainability- teaching, organizing networking and producing.

We envision a world of sustainable, fresh and local food communities.

What We Do

Our Westside Orchard Garden is a 2.2 acre plot where we grow, model and employ a variety of gardening methods, teach classes for adults, mentor kids raising their own vegetables, experiment with new and innovative methods for growing, and host seminars for groups.

Our Summer in the Garden Kids Program guides over 125 kids from Boys and Girls Club, The Rescue Mission and Salvation Army. Kids spend Monday-Thursday in the garden learning to grow and care for vegetables, prepare healthy snacks and opportunities to learn about composting, pollinators, nutrition and more.  With the help of our young gardeners, AmeriCorps VISTAs, volunteers and our garden manager, we grow 4,000 lbs of fresh produce that we donate back to kid kitchens, ensuring access to fresh produce for food insecure kids and families.
