Who We Are

Mission: To sustain and promote the heritage and significance of the First Peoples’ historical and cultural connections to the land.

First Peoples Buffalo Jump State Park is a historic and cultural landmark in Montana, dedicated to preserving and sharing the story of prehistoric life on the plains. Once a site where hunter-gatherers skillfully drove bison over cliffs to sustain their communities, the park now invites visitors to explore its rich history and natural beauty. Established in 1972 and renamed in 2007 to honor the many tribes who used this area, the park offers a unique glimpse into the ingenuity and resilience of the First Peoples.

What We Do

Spanning 2,100 acres, First Peoples Buffalo Jump State Park provides opportunities to learn, explore, and connect with history. Visitors can hike interpretive trails, explore the visitor center’s gallery, participate in programs like Junior Rangers and field trips, or enjoy special events like the Annual Buffalo Kite Festival. Facilities include hiking trails, traditional games fields, an amphitheater, and a bookstore. Through education, preservation, and community engagement, the park ensures this cultural treasure continues to inspire and educate future generations.
