United Way and the City Park & Recreation Department are partnering for the annual Take Pride in our Parks, Saturday, May 11!
People interested in helping can either recruit of team of five to 25 people and adopt a park, or they can join United Way board members near the skate park in Elk’s Riverside Park, Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
For volunteer teams, United Way will provide supplies and a task list for your assigned park. All volunteers are encouraged to wear work clothes, including gloves and bring a shovel or heavy duty rake.
This is the seventh year that United Way has organized Take Pride in Our Parks to celebrate National Volunteer Month and give local people the opportunity to make our city parks a safe and inviting place for healthy play.
United Way’s goals include advancing health and studies show that volunteering just two hours a week improves your health physically and mentally and extends your lifespan.
