More than 40 children are on the waiting list for a Big Brother or Big Sister.

Studies show that children matched with a mentor are less likely to skip school, less likely to be aggressive and less likely to try drugs or alcohol.

Adults are matched with children who have similar interests. Big Brothers, Big Sisters provides support to help mentors and their Littles to establish a strong, positive relationship.

Mentors must be 19 and will complete a criminal background check. The program asks that Bigs spend just eight hours a month with their Little.

If you’re intimidated to take on a child alone, couples and families can also mentor a child together.

And for people whose schedule doesn’t allow for an 8-hour commitment, you can help out during regular group outings and with fun fundraisers including an upcoming July 25 golf tournament.
