Put your green thumb to good use by volunteering to help harvest at one of the many community gardens in Great Falls.
This is a busy time of year for River City Harvest, an organization run entirely by volunteers.
Since starting in 2008, the nonprofit has started community gardens throughout Great Falls, including Park Place Health Center, the Electric City Conservatory, College of Great Falls – MSU, near Aging Services and Malmstrom Air Force Base.
All together, the volunteers manage roughly 50,000 square feet of gardens in Great Falls. That requires a lot of watering, weeding and harvesting.
The vegetables are shared with nonprofits including Meals on Wheels, the Great Falls Food Bank and the Salvation Army food pantry.
Much of the work is done on weekends and before and after normal work hours. This is also a terrific opportunity for gardening newbies who can learn more working side-by-side with master gardeners.
