Sun River Watershed Group

Who We Are

The Sun River Watershed Group was formed in 1994 as a task force to address water quality problems on Muddy Creek. Over the past 30 years, SRWG has grown into a 501(c)3 and has addressed issues including water quality, irrigation efficiency, stream bank stability, weed infestations, and more. SRWG’s projects have always been and remain voluntary, non-regulatory efforts that aim to benefit the people and resources of our watershed. Our mission: To protect and restore the resources of the Sun River watershed and its communities. The following Strategic Values guide the actions of SRWG in support of this mission: Improve water quality through reduction of sediment, nutrients, and temperature; Manage for adequate stream flows in all seasons that support multiple uses including agriculture, recreation, fish, and wildlife; Restore hydrologic processes such as floodplain connectivity and river migration; Enrich natural resources such as soils, fish, and wildlife; Control noxious weeds; Provide community education about watershed resources and stewardship; and Monitor and implement follow-up actions to ensure project success.

What We Do

SRWG’s 10-Year Strategic Plan and Watershed Management Plan identify several goals, including water quality, stream flows, weed control, and fish & wildlife habitat. SRWG has several programs in place to help address resource issues across the watershed to make progress towards these goals through working groups, volunteer days, and projects.
